Purpose

Weyerhaeuser Company’s “Excellence in Recycling’ Program rewards schools that teach the wise use and reuse of our natural resources through school recycling programs.  The intent of the program is to encourage and promote recycling and waste reduction activities.

Participants

Awards will be made to Oklahoma schools (K-12 public or private).  No awards will be made to individuals or to benefit specific individuals.

Awards

Ten (10) $1,000 awards for start-up, expansion and excellence programs.  The number of awards in each category varies from year to year depending on the quality of entries in each category.  Each school is eligible to win a maximum of three (3) times.

Judging

The committee oversees the selection process.

Timeline

Committee meets to review and revise entry process and timelines for the year

Entry forms are printed.  Discuss web sites for posting and promoting program.  Prepare material for posting

Entry forms mailed to schools and posted on web sites.  Committee members contact local schools in t heir area to encourage participation.  Promote program.

Deadline for entries to be received by committee

Committee meets to select winners and plan awards ceremony.

Hold ceremony to present awards to winning schools

Visibility

Hold a high profile ceremony to present awards to wining schools.  Invite sponsors and up to (10) students from each school to attend ceremony.  Summaries of the winning programs will be developed, along with a news release and picture, and sent to their local hometown newspaper acknowledging their accomplishments in recycling.
