INITIAL DAMAGE REPORT

• 5/6/99 No damage requiring special provisions.

• 5/6/99 DEQ local staff representatives met with local officials.
• 5/7/99 DEQ local staff attended meeting with Senator Martin yesterday regarding clean-up of area. Another meeting will be held this evening to update clean-up options and recent information on FEMA assistance.

• 5/4/99 DEQ local staff reports no chemical containers at the airport were damaged. DEQ Waste Management Division advised pub. works dir. that tin from hangars could be buried on site if not within ¼ mi. of water wells or in flood plain. Cover fill area within 45 days & send report to DEQ. Trees/shrubs could be piled up & either chopped or burned in a controlled burn later.

• 5/6/99 DEQ local staff meeting with City and airport officials to determine amount to be disposed and plan of action.
• 5/7/99 City and airport officials waiting on results of Governor’s meeting to decide on a plan for clean-up.

• 5/6/99 Staging area set up at City lagoon. Waiting on FEMA to determine total needs for disposal.
• 5/7/99 City officials met with Corps of Engineers 5/6/99 and contracted with them for disposal. Contract should take care of the towns needs at this time.

• 5/5/99 Midwest City is considering including them in their contract with Waste Management of Oklahoma, Inc. to take care of their storm debris. County assessors are out doing house to house and business to business surveys, assessing damage. DEQ requested that they make note of businesses that had hazardous chemicals stored, and advised they could contact DEQ for assistance if necessary. DEQ reviewing lists of businesses in the area that have haz. chemicals and is planning a field evaluation of these to determine any assistance that may be needed.

DEQ also contacting businesses in the area that may have hazardous chemicals. Indications are that few with hazardous chemicals were affected. Attempting to contact those businesses, and site visits will be done for those that sustained damage.

• 5/5/99 City working on contract with Waste Management of Oklahoma, Inc. for disposal of all storm debris. Waste Management of Oklahoma, Inc. claims can have streets cleaned within 2 weeks. All waste to be landfilled, no burning anticipated.

• 5/5/99 DEQ local staff working with City to establish emergency burn sites. Tentative locations are south of the cemetery and on church property at S. 27^th & I-35. Does not anticipate doing any burning for at least 2 weeks.

DEQ to ask city officials to contact DEQ Air Quality Division for technical assistance. Considering use of tub grinders to grind debris prior to incineration.

• 5/6/99 Waste staging area set up south and west of town. HEW Landfill has provide roll-off container for household type waste. Not sure at this time how clean-up will be handled. Waste being stacked for transport to staging area. Trees & limbs are being separated from construction/demolition waste. Waiting on FEMA.
• 5/7/99 DEQ local staff reviewed and accepted current waste staging area. Waste segregated into 4 piles, brush, construction/demolition debris, rock, metal. Also visited 2 possible burial sites, but none finalized as of yet.
