The McAlester Army Ammunition Plant has been in operation since 1943, manufacturing bombs and ammunition for the Department of Defense. The site also treats and demilitarizes older, out-of-date ammunition and explosives. The site has a RCRA permit for hazardous waste storage in containers, an ammunition deactivation furnace and the open burning/open detonation of waste explosives and propellants.
