Anadarko Petroleum
(f.k.a. Union Pacific Resources, Enid Refinery, and Champlin Refinery)

Anadarko Petroleum is a closed, dismantled refinery consisting of 362 acres in the northeast portion of the City of Enid. Past refinery operations consisted of a land treatment unit in which hazardous waste solids were land farmed, and that location is currently being monitored under a RCRA post-closure permit. Past refinery operations also caused releases of petroleum hydrocarbons to the groundwater, resulting in a benzene plume under the facility. A current Consent Order in lieu of a permit addresses the benzene plume. Extensive plume delineation has occurred with various remediation selections made. Significant progress has been made in reducing the extent of the benzene plume. Water is collected from the numerous monitoring wells, extraction wells, and remediation wells and processed in an on-site groundwater treatment facility. Groundwater monitoring occurs semi-annually.
