What's New in Lead?
  • RENTAL PROPERTIES ARE SUBJECT TO LEAD-BASED PAINT RULES: If you live in housing older than 1978, you should have received a statement about the possible presence of Lead-based Paint. If you have not received this literature or have questions about the Real-Estate law requiring this information, please contact Chuck Barnes with Region 6 EPA at 214-665-6535 or e-mail

Whenever work is done on your unit or home that will be disturbing paint, you should receive a pamphlet called Renovate Right. Work on your home or unit should only be performed by a Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) certified firm and contractor. If you have any questions regarding Lead-based Paint or RRP in rental properties you can contact the Department of Environmental Quality at 405-702-4100.

  • RRP PROGRAM: Because DEQ has accepted delegation of the Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Program from EPA, the minor RRP rule changes (January 2015) proposed by EPA will not affect Oklahoma RRP professionals and firms. Oklahoma RRP professional certification will continue to be valid in Oklahoma and any areas where EPA has jurisdiction. Oklahoma firms that are currently certified by EPA should ignore renewal notices from EPA unless they also work in other states. Please contact the DEQ Lead-based Paint program for information.

  • TOY RECALLS: The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from more than 15,000 types of consumer products. For information on lead related recalls, please visit their website. exit
