Every year the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality sends members of the Air Quality Division to Camp Goddard at Lake of the Arbuckles to run the Air Quality Survivor contest. The competition is attended by 6th grade students from Kingston, Oklahoma.
After being divided into four “tribes” the students compete against each other, first in teams and then individually, as they complete puzzles and games designed to teach them about air quality, air pollution, and how to care for the air. The teams compete to win prizes, to win the immunity totem, Sally Samplerhead, and to avoid elimination. The entire game is completed in less than an hour and a half to reveal the winner, who gets a certificate, a prize, and their picture placed on the DEQ website.
The 2006 Air Quality Survivor is Jernye Werth, followed by Dillon Jovee as first runner-up.
Good job, kids!
